WHAT IS PLASTIC INJECTION MOLDING?
Plastic injection molding is a process where plastic pellets are fed into a hopper and melted. The liquid plastic is injected though a nozzle, under pressure, into a mold cavity. The mold can have one or more cavities in order to make several parts at one time. After a short time, the plastic cools and hardens to the shape of the cavity. The part is then ejected from the cavity and the injection process repeats itself.
OUR PROCESS
After your part is conceptualized, it is given to an engineer to design. The engineer then designs the part to meet all the plastic design requirements. After the part is drawn in a type of CAD software it is submitted to Central One. Our engineers then examine the part to see if it will properly mold. Our engineers are very familiar with the mold process and can help your company identify problem areas before they cost you money.
Central One then works up a detailed quote with all the different quantities you requested. The quote is then submitted back to you. After we receive the order we begin machining the mold. Some sample parts are shot into the cavity after the mold is finished, these samples are sent to you for examination. You then verify that the part is exactly what you want. If there are any additional changes that you want to make to the mold then you can do it at this point. Once you release the part for production, we begin manufacturing the parts. While the parts are being manufactured we have a strict quality control audit in order to ensure the part is being molding correctly. After the parts are finished they are packaged and are ready to ship to you.
PLASTIC INJECTION MOLDING APPLICATIONS
Plastic parts that were made by the injection process can easily be found in everyday applications. There are too many applications to list but below is a short sample:
- Automotive Parts
- Medical equipment
- Aerospace components
- Consumer goods
- Electronic Enclosures
- Plastic containers
- Disposable products
- Moving assemblies
- Knobs
- Fasteners
- Connectors
- Gears
OUR TOOLING
The mold is a very important part to a successful plastic product. The mold is designed by our engineers to make the exact part the customer is looking for. Engineers design the mold based on several factors. Some examples are; plastic shrinkage after cooling, moving pins/slides, plastic cooling rate and part ejection. After the mold is designed it is precision machined and assembled. At Central One, we only use the highest performing NAK-80 steel to make our molds. Using this premium material allows us to get a longer tool life, less repairs and a better surface finish than competitors that use cheap unreliable aluminum or steel.
